Frederic Gmeiner, Nils Frahm, and Sepp Singwald’s childhood friendship extends to a time before the dismantling of the Berlin Wall. In a suburban Hamburg primary school, the trio bonded over a shared interest in sound equipment and field recordings. The Gamble is a collection of music they wrote between 2007 and 2015, recorded on a wide variety of multi track tape machines. Often patient and melodic, while occasionally earnest, the compositions here are always thoughtful.
